Can't open internet explorer-possible virus?
« on: June 06, 2005, 09:11:00 AM »
To make a long story short, a couple of days ago my computer started cutting off randomly for no reason.  Last night my virus scan detected coolwebsearch on the comp. then a program called PSGuard showed up on my computer and it will not let me unistall it. Along with this my computer said it was low on virtual memory.  Since all of this happened, it will not allow me to get on to internet explorer, and my computer keeps crashing and freezing. Please help!!

Follow these steps:

1. Boot into safe mode
-- To boot into safe mode, press F8 before Windows loads and select safe mode Do not select safe mode with network support
2. Scan for Viruses, Trojan Horses and Spyware.
-- Use the following scanners/applications

I. AVG free
II. Spybot S&D
III. Microsoft Giant Anti-spyware
IV: Zonealarm Free

3. Properly configure and apply these applications.

Answer these questions:

1. What are your system temperatures?
2. Have you recently made changes to your hardware?

Have you done as I have advised you to?

System temperatures can be viewed through the BIOS.

For information on how to use and/or access the BIOS refer to this article.

Raptor,
-Could you please explain how to access the BIO? I followed your directions and ran a scan.  The following was detected on Microsoft anti-spyware:
1) windupdates browser plug-in
2) Possible browser hijack browser modifier
3) cool web search (10 signatures)
4) cool web search. searchx spyware
5) krepper (trojan downloader)

-Upon completion of this scan they were cleaned and removed.

After that I ran a scan on AVG and it detected a Trojan Horse, but would not allow me to "move to chest" due to the following:

"virus chest server is not running. RPC communication failed."
