new problem with the stupid compaq

right after post i hear 2 short beeps
and it says ps/2 device configureation error
device disabled
any ideas?
this computer is starting to get me mad

Are you sure your mouse and keyboard are plugged in well?

Are you able to enter CMOS setup?

yes but the thing is is i keep it running without the cmos battery
so anything you change goes away after reboot

I'm not going to read another thread, but you should certainly install the battery for your cmos.

cause the whole point is to keep the settings saved in the cmos.  Till you do we cant really help you any more here.
