Hi,
I am having trouble importing a file
into Outlook Express. When I try, I
get the message:
"No messages can be found in this
folder or another application is
running that has the required files
open. Please select another folder
or try closing applications that may
have files open."
In an article on
www.ask-leo.com it seems to
say that this problem is caused by
the "read only" attribute being on.
However, I am unable to get it to
turn off. I uncheck it (uncolor it
actually. The box is colored in
green. If I click it once, it goes
blank. If I click it twice, a check
appears. If I click it a third time,
it turns green again.). However, as
soon as I close the properties
window, it reverts back to its
original state. (read only colored
green)
I submitted the problem to another
forum and got the following reply:
"The 'read only' checkbox means
nothing in WinXP, you can safely
ignore it. Permissions are set using
ACLs.
If I remember correctly, the Read
Only mechanism in the properties
window uses n attribute bit from FAT
filesystems (pre-NTFS). This bit
exists in both filesystems, but is
always set to '1' by default by NTFS
and then ignored, presumably as a
result of designing NTFS such that
FAT filesystems can be converted into
it.
If you are having trouble moving the
file, you need to look at the ACLs in
the 'security' tab of the
'properties' window."
Well, there is no "security" tab.
The folder has 3 tabs--General,
Sharing, & Customize. On the sharing
tab it seemed to indicate that there
might be some restriction on sharing
the contents of the folder. So I ran
a wizard to change that & I checked
two boxes on the Sharing tab marked
"Share this folder on the network."
(I'm not on a network by the way.)
and "Allow network users to change my
files."
None of this helped. I still can't
import the file to OE. I still get
the same error message. Can you
help? Thanks.
