What language you want to stick with really depends on what type of programs you want to develop. If you want games, it's good to learn C++. If you want programs that involve more of a user interface, it's good to learn Java. Both C++ and Java are similiar, once you learn one, it's easy to understand the other.

If you're just beginning programming however, I suggest you start with python. Once you're comfortable with that, learn a lower level language like C++. C++ seems to be becoming the most popular language out there.

    Thanks Gizmo73 ,you really helped
In fact I know C/C++ from the university courses..but as you know ,, we don't learn EVERYTHING !
so I don't know if I have to learn more about C++ OR MOVE TO JAVE ? or C# ..

Thanks for the link, I'll read it again (because I saw it before)

    Regards :)

While I was surfing around came across this post and thought I would insert a shameless Computer Hope plug and comment about a post. You also may want to check out the below link.

    http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/p/proglang.htm

Although it doesn't contain extensive information about every language it does break the languages down into categories. For example if you're interested in getting into web development or web design you could consider learning Perl or PHP.

Was this directed to me Dusty OP aka Operator? If so, what am I doing exactly that's classifying me as stupid? Is there something you would like to see or have changed?

Oh dear me no laddie.  I think OP is used to signify Original Poster in forums parlance whereas Op is the operator. Well, that's what I'm used to using it as.  My sincere apologies if you thought I was having a go at you for something or other,  there was no intent to do so.

;)As a fellow student and an American who has lived abroad through my parrents work. I say hang in there, your writing and language skills are more than under-standable. some of the comments though seem to be part of that age old virus "international social stupidity" that enfects some of us all over the glob.

No, no.  I didn't mean for you to do that!!!  Now I have to write a prog to translate hex to ascii.  Please don't point me at a util to do it, I must do penance.
