    Freeze, desktop, back to game.
    « on: January 09, 2010, 12:15:28 AM »
So whenever I play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on my computer, every so often the game will freeze up, go to a black screen for a second, show my desktop for a second, then go back to the game. It's acting like it's alt-tabbing out, but I don't press alt-tab. And it's not just Call of Duty, it's also Empire: Total War and Tropico 3, but it's at its worst in CoDMW2.

    Specs:   Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66GHz
    4.0 GB RAM
    GeForce 9800 GTX (Thing's a beast!)
    Running Windows 7
    Antec Earthwatts 650 (3 12v rails)

So these games run graphically no problem, but it's the constant but random stops that make me mad, and I have no clue why it might be doing this.

I would check temperatures during the gaming sessions, it could be that the card is becoming non-responsive, and 'pausing' the game to become more stable / cool down, I know ATi cards do this with VPU recover, not so sure with the nVidia cards.

What other programs are running in the background?

Sometimes i'll have Daemon Tools and EA Download manager in the background, but I always make sure I shut down any windows of anything I have open before I play any game. And heat might be a problem, but I've tried opening up the side and that didn't help at all. I just downloaded the latest driver update and haven't had any real problems yet. If that was seriously the solution, I'm sorry I wasted space with this topic :/
