windows 98 grainy display
« on: June 29, 2005, 07:53:49 PM »
Had problems with shut down, tried few tricks from MS help... shuts down nicely, but now monitor displays all icons, programs with pixellated, grainy appearance. Can't change color from 16 to 256. Help before this thing is turned into a paperweight.

Check your video drivers in your device manager.
    Re-install if necessary.

Also (forgive me if this is too obvious) check that you are not in Safe Mode when you are trying to change the display configuration.

In addition, check Device Manager to see that there are no problems with your video adapter (right-click My Computer and select Properties from the context menu; in System Properties, select the Hardware tab and click Device Manager).

:)Hey. Well that happend to me and i know how to get it back  ;D

    Do this :

    Start
    Run, type in "command"
it will open up a window, then type in " scanreg/restore "
It will come up with a list of dates, select one of the most recent but one when your display was ok.. press enter and have it restore your pc...  after that is it does not work saying " unable to restore etc " the select another date and it should work

    ;)

Oh and make sure you back up your pc befor doing it... just incase somethign goes wrong but it shouldent  ;D
