Glicth? Toyota 270K recalls.
« on: February 04, 2010, 03:50:50 PM »
Toyota will recall 270,00 or more vehicles because of some serious problem.
(Google "Toyota recall" - results may vary.)

Was is a bad mechanical design?
Was it a software 'Glitch'?

Is it excusable because software is such a new technology?
So we have to accept the death of hundredths or thousands as the price of progress?

It really shouldn't be excusable. Toyota is supposed to be a trustworthy company, and to maintain that trust, every new product must be tested to a high degree. I foresee a larger drop in their stocks in the new future. It will take a while to gain the people's trust back.

The attached is from CNN.

Quote
Toyota has recalled at least 8.1 million vehicles since November for problems relating to gas pedals getting stuck on floor mats, the carmaker confirmed on Thursday. The company stopped the sale of eight models involved in the latest recall. The 2010 model of the Prius was also recalled last week.

That's old technology that should have been caught sooner.  The rumor mill is saying Toyota has know about it for some time, but not acted soon enough.  That's what is going to hurt them.

I haven't seen anywhere that they actually confirmed it to be a software glitch or any other government agency found that it was a software glitch. Seems to me that they're still under the belief that it's all a mechanical glitch. In any case whatever it is I don't think it's excusable and I'm sure our sue happy economy will get plenty of compensation from it.

Maybe we need a CTRL + ALT + DEL option in our car??

Apple computers co-founder Steve Wozniak told ABC's Brian Ross that he believes the problem with his Toyota was not gas pedals, but software. Wozniak also said he been trying to get the attention of Toyota and the government's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for several months without success.

I stand corrected. Seems like everything I've heard in the news all pointed towards hardware not hardware and software.

Just noticed. You spelled glitch wrong in the thread title. You spelled it glicth.
