« on: July 01, 2005, 04:55:22 PM »
ok so i went out and bought the sims2 yesterday and installed my GF FX5500 vid card cause ive been running a 64mb  for the past couple months cause i havent been gaming lately. so i install it and the boot.. it works fine then i install drivers for it and the restart and its all like... umm no i dont think i want to work anymore.. no video.. i stick the 64mb back in and it works fine. put the 256 back in and its receiving no power. but it works fine in other boxes.. so why isnt it getting power. i unplugged all the other drives and tried booting it and nothing.. so i dunno, help anyone? thx

Has it ever worked in this machine?
Have you set your bios right agp-pci-onboard?
Did you get the latest drivers for it?
Did you remove the old 64 drivers first?

        Bootup with the 64 card.
Remove the 64 driver from the device manager.
Select standard vga as your display driver.
        Click OK to close.
        Shutdown the computer.
        Change video cards.
Make sure card & cables are properly plugged in.
Boot & change bios if necessary to change pci>agp.
If windows detects new card, go with the flow & install new drivers, if not, go to add new hardware & do it.
Any hiccups along the way try starting in safe mode.

And you need to get to bios to change 64>256 / pci>agp? Yes?

64>256 is my way of saying to change the 64 card to the 256 card you need to change from pci to agp?
            Sorry to confuse you.
Anyway, it shouldn't really matter, the bios should read whatever card is plugged in, but you never know.
I'm thinking as a test you should get into bios with the 64 card, change the bios to agp, save then turn off the computer, then put in the 256 card & boot to see what happens.
Only that you say it works in a different computer I'd be thinking the card is zapped.
Have you tried it in the other computer again to be sure?

The 256MB card might need additional power directly from the PSU.

Does your mainboard support the 256MB videocard?

The other computer may support 3.3V videocards whilst yours only supports 1.5V.
