I can't get on AIM, surf the web, etc. This happened a couple weeks ago, and it was repaired but I didn't want to bother the person again, so I have gone several days w/o Internet. Any ideas on what I might be able to do?

sorry, i have windows XP on a dell pentium processor (home desktop). i have:

comcast-provided motorola modem
d-link airplus g dwl-g510 wireless (not sure what it is exactly)
linksys wrt150n router
IP address (if this helps): 156.218.196.58

What have you tried so far?

I would try resetting your modem. Unplug the power, wait about a minute, and then replug it.

did that and didn't work. with the modem and the router.

also disconnected/re-connected and repaired about a dozen times each

You said it worked a couple of days ago, I suggest trying a System Restore to a few days before the problem occurred.

the system restore didn't work- couldn't find a point where the connection worked, because i'm not sure if it's been on before. but i noticed something: when i rollover the icon on the system tray for the network connection, it says excellent, but in the window for the specific connection, it has 0 bars and says "no signal"

Hmmm....do you have another computer you can test this with?
Do you think it could be your subscription with your internet provider?

no i don't. about the ISP: comcast isn't very reliable, but all 4 computers in the house use the same connection and network, and they're working perfectly...
