No offense intended but i don't understand why CD's worth almost 600 Bucks can get misplaced....

You WILL need to locate them to correct this issue though.

Agreed.  If Adobe can't correct the problem, then you'll likely need to reinstall the program, which of course requires the CD's.

If this copy of CS3 was downloaded illegally from Limewire or such, you are possibly suffering from a virus.  The program is absolutely worth its high price.  The overhead necessary to produce CS3 was enormous.   I suggest that CS3 is the most powerful program available to the consumer for purchase.

The version I had to use for school was $1000, and although it's an impressive program, I can't justify any software costing that much.  Not that I'm condoning piracy, of course...but some of these prices are simply outrageous.

CB.  Yeah, I understand your frustration.  I don't want to sound sarcastic so please understand I am just stating facts.  Software in the vertical market, for some special business like a boatyard, bicycle shop, etc. might cost $75,000 with a required yearly service contract of $25,000 or more.  With that in mind, $1000 is a bargain.  (I think the package you had was the "suite.")  Programmers earn at least $50K per year, and there are whole teams of them working on sections of a program as complex as PhotoShop.  Marketing is expensive--magazine ads costing $50K or much more, each, one issue.  There are more expenses (overhead, insurance, etc.).  That's why CS3 costs $600 or so.  (I think Lightroom took two years to develop, an expensive proposition.)

If you are a student you get discounts.  It pays to study.  The high price is motivation to get a job that pays enough to afford these wonderful "toys."

I see where you're coming from, but when the free software is quickly catching up to the capabilities of high-end programs like PhotoShop, these high prices become more and more ridiculous.  They've been able to profit so much because they know that people need their software, but eventually, they won't be able to get away with it anymore if this trend in open source software continues on its current path.  That's how I see it anyway.

With that said, I do think this is a great program and if you can afford it or find a cheap way to get it, it's worth it (as long as you actually put it to use).  And yes, my version is CS3 Extended.  I actually need to reinstall it later today so I can do some work for the business my fiancé and I are trying to start.

Chris: There is no such thing as a free lunch.  Free software is great, of course (but not the stolen kind).  However, if you are in business, and you need to use the software, you want the company that made it to be in business for as long as you remain in business.  You just have to make the money to cover your expenses.  That's the way it is done.  In the "old days" (early 1900s) labor was cheap but materials were expensive.  Now it is just the other way around.  If you were a talented programmer would you like to be working for $5,000 a year as they do in India?  We just have to pay the price.

With how incredibly hard it is to find work, I probaby would be happy with $5000 a year.  Ha, but yes, I get your point.
