    Debug?
    « on: March 31, 2007, 06:36:21 PM »
    Hi all,

Pretty recently I get a error message in more or less every application I run (FireFox, iTunes, MS Word, a few 'light' games) which asks me to "debug" or "close". After a few times just closing I tried to "debug" but nothing happened. Literally nothing, the screen just stayed (but didn't freeze so I just closed). It seems pretty intermittent and as you can guess, it's kind of annoying. I took a screenshot of the iTunes error:

I run AVG & Spybot weekly (incidentally the "debugging errors" may be linked with Spybot, they started occurring around a fortnight ago when I installed it...) and I'm on XPsp2.

    Any help would be great.

P.S. Congats on the new forum!!

The debug feature is more meant for the developers of the program and require either a programming language with debugging support or debugging tools installed on the computer for it to do anything.

    Debugging tools:

Regarding this issue because it's not really giving you any helpful information to help determine the cause of the issue. Check to see if the additional technical information gives you any additional information about what file is causing the issue.

Since it's also something that recently started occurring you may want to consider reverting the computer back to a earlier copy of Windows and/or uninstalling Spybot to see if it's the cause of your issue.

Also if it is happening in more than one program and pretty regularily it may be a hardware issue...
Dload and run the diagnostics from the HDD manuf. site.
DLoad and run Memtest for the RAM...let it run a few hours.

If both these pass OK then post back and we'll suggest otherwise.

      Thanks for the replies.

Admin: I removed Spybot and rolled back. The problem didn't go away.

Patio:  Scanned my HDD and ran memtest for a few hours. No errors were found on either.

I'm almost certain this problem is iTunes related. I might just try another music player.

I've done some research and I'm gonna go for Winamp. Foobar looks awesome but it looks a bit too complex to set up.

Thanks anyway. I'm almost certain the memory hog iTunes' was the problem.
