.pst Outlook and Windows7
« on: March 05, 2010, 09:13:50 AM »
After a new install of Windows 7, I copied my archive.pst file from the XP drive to the 7 drive. Installed Office 2007 (which was on the XP drive). I tried to add the data file and am told "File access is denied. You do not have the permission required to access the file C:\archive.pst." I have made sure that I am the owner of the file. The only other thing I can think of is that the attributes didn't transfer. The only attribute I see is A (archive) and it won't let me add R or S. any suggestions?

First of all, you don't want to use the archive.pst, you want to copy the original (default name is Outlook.pst). Second, after doing so you should not have the same problem but if you do, take ownership (http://www.blogsdna.com/2173/add-take-ownership-option-in-right-click-context-menu-of-windows-7.htm)

Only Elevated Applications can Access C:\, C:\windows, and C:\program files folders, regardless of the security set on those files.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.
