    Windows Security Alert
    « on: April 11, 2010, 08:17:35 PM »
Windows Security Alert virus. A popup appeared saying, "Windows reports that computer is infected. Antivirus software helps to protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. Click here for the scan you computer. Your system might be at risk now." By clicking on this, Antivirus Suite comes up.

Attempts to fix this: I tried installing and running Malwayrebytes, but it would not work. I tried renaming it to .bat, .com, .scr, and .pif but still nothing. Also, I tried running rkill.exe, but same result. A popup would appear saying, "Application cannot be executed. The file rkill.exe is infected."

Is there any way to get rid of this virus?

I tried that, in 2 different ways (using administator and my account), however, a popup appeared saying, "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation."

That didn't help because I am unable to install or run anything. Also, I am unable to access any files, programs, or Control Panel. It seems like I will just have to try to backup files and reinstall Windows. However, what are the chances that this virus will occur again? Perhaps I should install another operating system? I have a netbook (HP mini 1035nr).

          5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
          6. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
          7. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

You will have to do this  part on a functioning computer.

Go to this link to create a Rescue CD or to this site to create a Rescue USB. Carefully follow all the instructions for whichever method you choose.
