    MS Updates on Vista
    « on: April 15, 2010, 12:57:40 PM »
Sorry peeps, but l'm still an avid XP user.
However a friend of mine is using Vista (not sure what sp version) and she says that every time an MS update comes along it reboots the system.
Is that true for Vista as it doesn't seem to happen in XP. Is there something in XP that is different than Vista?
    Thanks

    Allan

Some updates require a reboot, some don't. It's the same for ALL Microsoft OS's.

      Thanks Allan,
Yes l know that (so sorry Allan, that sound really flippant)
I think l've encountered a re-boot once or twice in XP as far as l can recall, but l believe it gave me the option of a restart now or later. Normally it seems to update when l close the computer down.
From the garbled message l got from my friend, it seemed that she was getting reboots lots of times whislt she was doing other things on the system. Can't see that somehow?
I just wondered whether anything was different between XP and Vista

Nope, not with updates. Vista also offers the option to restart immediately after the updates or to postpone. Same with W7

I am unable to install a security update for Vista. This one is the only one not installing...After a restart it simply tells me that it failed to work and it is reverting back...I realize this is a very general question but what are some common reasons I am having difficulty?  Thanks

      1) Start your own thread. You're not going to get much attention in someone else's thread.
      2) When you do start your thread provide as many details as possible.

Thanks Allan and Patio (poor old Philip),
Told me exactly what l wanted to know (ie no difference between the way updates are done).
