    Thumbs no show!
    « on: May 16, 2010, 12:55:23 AM »
    Hello folks,

    Whenever I download/copy a graphic file to a directory, I get a
    graphical thumbnail of that file in that directory.  After a while,
    I notice that some of those thumbnails turn generic and there is
    no tiny picture of that file showing :(.  Why does this happen and
    how can I get the small picture showing again?

    Thank you

    Are you putting these images in the standard My Pictures folder or a folder you created?

        Hi,

        To work around this problem, add the ShellEx keys and the corresponding values for the image files to the Windows Registry. To do this, follow these steps.

        Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

        1). Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

        2). In Registry Editor, expand the following subkey:
        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes

        3). Click .gif.

        4). On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.

        5). In the New Key #1 box, type ShellEx, and then press ENTER.

        6). On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.

        7). In the New Key #1 box, type the following:
                  {BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}
                  Note Include the braces in the above key name.

                  Note The above key name contains zeros, and not the letter O.

        8). Press ENTER.

        9). In the right pane, right-click Default, and then click Modify on the shortcut menu.

        10). In the Value data box, type the following:
                   {7376D660-C583-11d0-A3A5-00C04FD706EC}
                   Note Include the braces in the above value.

                   Note The above value contains zeros, and not the letter O.

        11). Click OK.

        12). In the folder list, click .jpeg.

        13). Follow steps 5 through 12 to add the same keys and value to the .jpeg registry key.

        14). In the folder list, click .jpg.

        15). Follow steps 5 through 12 to add the same keys and value to the .jpgregistry key.

        16). Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
