...Computer_Commando, can you state exactly what you mean by that high lighted phrase?  I suspect you mean touch the computer chasis somewhere before poking around inside.  Am I right?
Yes you are.
He said the same thing in Steps 5 & 6 in the link I provided:  http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-protect-your-computer-from-esd

I removed the case and the instructions are in reverse. In other words looking at the drive like you are plugging in the connectors, the master is on the left. In the instructions, it shows it on the right. BTW, it's a Quantum "Fireball" SE 3.5 series I'll check back later but will search in the mean time and see what I can find. The instructions show the slave to be two pins down from the master or 3rd set.
Nothing standard about those drives, but they do seem to last a long time.  Do exactly what is says in the link you provided:  http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=168019&NewLang=en&Hilite=Quantum+Fireball+SE+3.5
Some drives had jumpers located here:

Other drives had jumpers located here (I told you they were non-standard):

Woah... that's the <Exact> same position as the equivalent jumpers on my two 50MB (yes, MB) Quantum drives from god knows when. Guess some things never change, heh.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

Better than a Quantum BigFoot (appropriately named).
"...used 5.25-inch drives for greater capacity at a lower cost, but had a long access time..."

ESD (Electro Static Discharge) has nothing to do with grounding.  It has everything to do with putting your body at the same Electrical Potential as the computer.

One of the scariest things I've seen on TV is a technician working on a live 500 KV transmission line from a helicopter.  He wore a specialized bunny suit and equalized his bunny suit to the transmission line.  As long as he was at the same potential as the transmission he he was fine.

It's one of the basic principals of grounding, everything needs to be at the same potential.  It's the reason that your power, cable and phone service are all bonded together.

Eureka, I'm finally finished. It took every bit of 6 hours to copy the hard drive. I'm posting a picture of what it looked like, I even set up an auxiliary cooling system from one of the home central air vents via three rolled up posters joined together. One of the cooling fans was in the side of the computer cabinet and didn't want any over heating. Any way, here is the picture. If it's too big I'll remove it or a mod can. Looks like a little cleaning is in order as well ;D.

Well done. For future reference it occurred to me as we were dealing with your issue that many many moons ago i wanted to transfer data from one computer to another (was going to terminate use of one of them) and i accomplished this transfer by networking the 2 of them and dragging and dropping the desired files from the HDD of one to the HDD of the one i was keeping. If i recollect ( at my age not my strongest attribute) it was easy and accomplished the task. I didn't want to add confusion to your efforts so i chose not to mention it as an alternative--but for the future i suggest that as another way to possibly achieve the transfer. truenorth

Thanks truenorth, I've done that before but am not sure it's any quicker then what I did. I just copied it and pasted it to the flash drive. I thought it would never get done.
