    IE8 and websites
    « on: November 17, 2010, 07:46:39 AM »
Trying to close websites when using IE8 starts to become a problem. When I click on the wellknown X it takes at least 6-12 seconds before the page disappears, have really wait for it....and after a while it gets harder and harder to open new ones..... its as if XP doesnt want me to open more....

Have XP+SP3 and all the MSgadgets, IE8, AVG and all the other wellknow defences..lol...using XP's firewall...
Machineinfo: Asus, AMD Athlon 64, 3200+, 3Gb RAM

well-known what? This could be the problem. Specify previously installed then uninstalled well-known defenses :o aside from AVG.

Heard something about the fact that in XP you could only open x number of pages and there is patch? that puts that amount to infinity?

Check first your active add-ons loading time. On IE, click Tools, Manage add-ons, once open scroll right. You will have an idea why IE is taking too long to load by current add-ons + loading time. Try disabling first the one with the highest loading time. Highlight and choose disable, close. Close IE8. This is better tested after you rebooted your computer before opening IE8. On the first time you( re)booted your computer and opening a browser(IE) will  know the difference of how it took effect upon changes made. If everything is still the same...
Run your IE browser without Add-ons, on your desktop, right-click IE icon click on Start w/out Add-ons.
One of your current loaded add-ons might be corrupted. Enable each one after if IE8 made a better loading time after choosing to run w/out add-ons. Close browser after every enabled toolbars or add-ons.

3 HDD same type in 4 years and I thought WDG was an ok type

Am I reading this right, three hard drives in four years?  If so, that's not normal, even if it's a raid set up, and it doesn't sound like it is.  And WD is generally as good as any.
