    Java hates me!
    « on: January 25, 2011, 05:18:40 AM »
First of all, I want to say thank you to all you wonderful people in these forums that dedicate your talents and time to helping those of us that are less computer savvy! I am eternally grateful!

My situation: I had the nasty System Tools malware which I have been working with SuperDave to resolve. However we hit a speed bump with the process because the final scans all require Java.

Well my Java was outdated and possibly infected. It didnt remove all the way so I (under Dave's instructions) used the REVO tool to remove the associated files and was able to successfully download the newest version. (I had to use the offline exe because the online one kept telling me that my internet options weren't right?)

Here's the kicker...When I test my version it says there is an error again . I have confirmed Java is enabled in the settings and that java is enabled in the java control panel and that I cleared the cache as instructed on the Java site to correct the error. I even uninstalled and reinstalled but got the same thing.

I think SuperDave is stumped also(he hasn't yet replied to my last post) and that's why I am asking here. I apologize if I'm out of line for asking about this in another forum but since this is a software issue and not a malware issue I thought I would give Dave a break.

Thanx in advance for your assistance!
    gina

Download Security Check from HERE, and save it to your Desktop.

        * Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
        * Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
        * A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

You have the latest Java installed (Java(TM) 6 Update 23  ), so you're good to go.

On a side note, you should also update Adobe Reader.

        Ok I will update Adobe.

Just one more question: Why does the Java site keep giving me an error when testing my install?

        Thanx!

        What does the error say?
        Did you try different browser?

          What does the error say?
          Did you try different browser?

After I downloaded the new version of Java it automatically sent me to the Java site to "verify my installation". But then it gives an error. It doesn't tell me what the error is it just tells me that" If you can't see your machine info in the box above please check these additional configurations:
Enable java in your web browser -DONE
Enable java thru the java plug in control panel-DONE
           Clearing the web cache-DONE

But it still won't work.  ??? No I haven't tried a different browser. The machine is my daughters and she is only accustom to IE so I don't really want to put something else on it.

          Thanx for your help!

OK, according to SecurityCheck, you have the latest Java installed.
Do you have any actual browser issues, except for the error at Java check site?

Have you check your Java Control Panel for any Network settings(use browser settings) or Default Java for browsers->Mozilla family or IE(both should be checked)  under Advanced tab and look for default settings?

Broni: When I click on Firefox to open the browser it says it is" unable to connect" to whatever page I'm trying to open. What's weird is that the tool bar applications at the top seem to work , but if I click on one to go to the page it gives me the same error.

Jason: I have checked every setting in the Java control panel and in the the browser options. Everything I can think of. I even searched the net and tried somethings others had done. I still can't get it to work. (Java)

                Thanx for your help!
