wireless wont browse but wired is fine.
    « on: March 29, 2011, 10:54:10 AM »
Please help me, I got a new laptop about a year ago and it while it connects to the wireless network I can't browse the internet. I can Skype. If I use the network cable it works perfect. The laptop is a 64bit running Windows 7.I have found several forums on this and have tried the suggested solutions but nothing seems to work.I know its not a router problem as it happens with any connection I try and the router works fine with other laptops.following one of the suggestions on a forum I did find and error that said the computer wasn't receiving an ip address but it would keep trying.
I would appreciate any help you could give me.
    Tanx

What is the service (Cable, DSL, etc...) and manufacture of router?

Will the laptop connect to any wireless spots?

Do you see your wireless listed for available connections?

It sounds as though your internet browser is firewalled, or something of the like.
Have you tried using more than one browser?

It happens regardless of any router, the one at home the one in college, work,my fone as a WiFi hotspot.initially I thought it was a firewall thing but I disabled it briefly and it still didn't work, also when the problem began I had Norton, since I've uninstalled that and changed to the Microsoft antivirus as the subscription ended.the wireless connects and I can see its connected and I can Skype but if I go into a browser(IE chrome),nothing.

Check the security settings in Internet Settings in the Control Panel. In the security tab, at the bottom, reset levels to default and see if you can connect.

Have you connected wired to the router to the modem can you browse?

Have you gone to the Manufacture (computer) site and downloaded the most recent driver for the wireless card?

I can connect with a network cable and I can browse fine.Im pretty sure its not the card itself as browsing is the only problem, skyping and connecting is fine.I will try it at wkend when I'm hme and can connect to router bt I doubt it will work.

How long and since when have you been having this wireless issue? Did it work before?

Have you checked both the router and modem to see if the IP address or MAC address is on a Blocking/Filtering list.

Should have returned it if the problem was from the laptop network card itself.
