REGISTRY advice please?
« on: April 23, 2011, 12:45:05 AM »
I'm running the windows XP home edition from around 2007 and I got a feisty virus in my registry that I can't find with my antivirus program.

I'm using avast! free version, and it works great, but can't seem to scan registry paths. I searched the registry for it manually and almost

deleted it after finding it but thought better of myself as I had not backed up the registry in case something went wrong. It's in a registry key

called ACMru which contains two sub keys both containing the virus's

name. Instead of deleting it, could I just set the binary value of the keys to 0? Would do anything to the virus? How about my computer?

Any help/advice appreciated. Thanks for reading

Full key path::    HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2730668943-999048487-825927353-1011\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru

(Hope that helps in some way...?)
