Setting Up Wireless for the first Time
« on: July 01, 2011, 01:08:09 PM »

I have a Gnet ADSL Modem BB0060A and would like to buy a Router to go wireless with a laptop.

Q1. Does it matter which brand of router I buy for a single laptop setup? Home is a one level bunglow so distance is not a factor.

Q2. The back of the modem has a Lan and Console jack's, which one of these does the Router plug into.

Almost any modem router for home use should work. But if in doubt, ask for information from  the ISP you have.
This appears to be the modem you have.

But about the same price, you  get a router, modem and wireless all in one. Sometimes you can get a used one cheap, or a model that is no longer supported.

In what region are you?

Kinda surprised that ANY DSL provider here in Canada does NOT supply a modem with their service.truenorth
Have you checked out what DSL service providers are available in Kingston? truenorth

He has the modem. But it is not a combo wireless router and ADSL modem, like the ones made by Two-Wire and others. My thought was to just replace the modem with a combo, if his ISP will allow it.

I use KOS Kingston, I will ask them if they have a modem/router combo.

Is your current dsl modem supplied by KOS? Might want to check out Distributel re your hardware and pricing comparison.
