Where should I buy an iPod
    « on: February 18, 2012, 01:33:58 AM »
I've decided to break down and finally buy an mp3 player. I want to get an iPod classic-- just not sure where to get it.

I happened to be at Target looking at the iPods and a sales associate said that their warranty would cover things that apple care wouldn't cover.  So maybe I should buy it at target? Or is there a better place to buy?

Amazon. No sales tax and you have a 6-12 month return window.

If you don't mind it being used I'd also highly recommend buying it used from a site like ebay. I've recommended this for many people and family members who've all bought ipods cheaply and given them as Christmas gifts to their kids.

Also, should I buy an extended warranty?

Personally never buy extended warranties on any product, including iPods. The only one produced I'd ever recommend buying an extended warranty for is a warranty on a laptops display since it's such an expensive component.

If an electronic device is going to fail it will most likely do so within the original warranty period. Never purchased an extended warranty and have never regretted not doing so.

That sounds good.  It's cheaper too.  But how is it cheaper? I mean is there a catch?

When buying apple products, you are paying a premium just for the apple name. A generic MP3 player will be much cheaper for the same functionality. If you must, online is best.

I have given this advise many times here on the Ch forums but i suspect for this O/P it bears repeating.Given that your decision is made to buy a "new one". Determine the warranty provisions of your credit card(s). I am using one that has no annual fees of any kind and provides for a minimum of doubling of the manf/store warranty when the purchase is made via that card. You can pay off the total of the purchase immediately after the purchase and the warranty remains in effect with all it's provisions. Invariably the credit card warranty provisions are even more inclusive than the product warranty. Such as loss or stolen  are included on it and NOT on the product warranty. Fortunately i have NOT had to exercise this additional warranty often but on the instances i have there was never any negative issue or outcome. Becomes essential to keep both the purchase receipt and the credit card reference to the product if they are separate. I have never understood why more consumers don't use this feature of the credit card to extend warranties on products.truenorth

Buy it from Amazon. The only legit site that I can think of that gives big discount!
