internet explorer closes for no reason

I was wondering if anyone can help.  In the past couple of days my internet explorer would close everytime I clicked on a link or even while browsing.  I don't understand, but I noticed that before that happened I could not get on the internet at all.  Internet explorer wouldn't even open.  I have a cable modem so its always on.    Now it closes by itself every three minutes or so. can anyone help?

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3263.html  run a spyware scan and a virus scan if you can...or find some who will download these programs to disk and run them on you pc..do you get any error messages like ie has a problem and will now close? try ping in the msdos prompt...like ping www.computerhope.com  it should return with packets sent packets lost ? then you will see if this is cable problem or ie problem..
