    Gateway IP Vanished
    « on: January 27, 2012, 12:18:51 AM »
I have two servers in place that I use.  Thing is that I was going to rejoing one client back  Thing is that I couldnt get it to rejoing the Server then.  I reinstall an set everything back on the Server.  However, it seemed that my router failed maybe :?  When I do a IP config there is no Gateway IP.  I tried connecting my unit which, keeps a majority of the data out to a wireless router.  My machine still didnt have an Gateway IP spite that I can access via the network.

I disabled it so that the server could issue them.  I dont recall if that worked or not before :/  Should I still try?  I dont think that it will do any good
      since its not issueing them.

So you have two servers and one of them acts as a DHCP server? You disabled DHCP on your router?

What server software are you running?

I have one working server in place.  I was told it was best just to use DHCP off of it instead.  I had disabled DHCP on the Router.  I didnt
have this issue till just recently.  Windows 2000 Standard an 2008 Data Center.

If you have no DHCP server then you need to manually assign a gateway to your devices in which case I wonder what the problem is? Have you tried adding the server's IP address as a gateway to your wireless device?

Oh, judging from your original text I thought it was a wireless client.

Anyhow, try running regedit on your server, going to KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces and select the interface that's missing the gateway. Then create a new string, call it DefaultGateway and enter the former gateway IP address.

Yes. If the Gateway IP won't stay logged in the menu, you need to do it through regedit.

You know how regedit works, right?

Well, this should be perfectly safe as you're not changing anything vital to the functioning of Windows.

If you're so worried about breaking it make a back-up of the registry first, then. Spybot can do that.
