can't download anything

I am using ie10..... it will  not download virus updates, windows updates nothing. it says to check security settings, all settings are fine I set all settings to default. I have run chk disk, windows defender and found win32 alureon. it said it couldn't remove everything to do it manualy, but there are no entries in the registry that it said should be in there......also the hard drive light never blinks it stays on all the time. any suggestions??
