Bought 2013 McAfee AV, never used, Is it still good?

  Dummy question? Is a 2013 AV software  (in which the product key was never used) still going to receive updates for 2014? = Is it still any good?

In 2012 Black Friday sale my wife bought (2) AV programs McAfee AV Plus 2013 for (3)PCs & the other the same accept for only 1 PC protection.

We forgot all about this purchase until now when it is time to renew. We have 2 working PCs so naturally we used the 3 AV.  I don't remember why, A gift idea perhaps? but, the other was never returned.

So it's a case of a charitable donation to McAfee. Buy another single or use a free AV software. Provided that this one is still good.

Any Thoughts? Any free AV that you would strongly recommend?

Yes. BUT - McAfee products are really awful. I'd strongly suggest ANY other AV

I don't use free AV's. There are lots of good ones, but when it comes to protecting my computers I'm of the school that you get what you pay for.
