    Serial number not accepted
    « on: November 11, 2005, 04:16:38 PM »
My son's Medal of Honor Allied Assault will not install because it states that an incorrect seriel number was typed in.  I typed it in myself and it still did not accept it as correct.  This particular computer used to be Windows ME (where the game was originally installed).  Now, it is Windows XP.  Don't know if that makes any difference.
I suspect it might be a driver issue so I wrote to the company and asked for help and we are waiting for their reply.  I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem when installing an old game on a newer platform?

Is this a used game? Does your computer meet the game's requirements?

I doubt it is a driver issue.  :-/

I bought it new a couple of years ago and yes the computer met all requirements.  A few months ago I changed the operating systems (from Windows ME to Windows XP).  It was originally installed when it was Windows ME with  no problem.  Now, when he went to install it (same computer different system) it won't install because it states that the serial number is incorrect.

Well, the company responded.  They want me to send the original back cover that has the serial code # so that they can send me another serial code#.  But, the message also states that it would have to be within the 90 days purchase period which, we are not.  This game was purchased over a year ago.  So, I'm waiting for another response to my question about the over 90 days of purchase.  They did respond within 24 hours so that it is encouraging.
Will let you know what happens.

You should have mentioned in your  first E-mail that you bought it more than 90 days ago. If they then agree to exchange it and later on, after having received the game, say they can't help you, you point to the E-mail where the employee did say it was allowed.

Now you have a chance that they'll reject it.

Plus, serial numbers do not go invalid over night. You do not even need to connect to the Internet to activate them, so there is a 99.9% probability that you did not type down the numbers correctly.

The remaining 00,1% being a Gremlin.

If you forgot it or something, go into the CD using Windows Explorer, and find the serial file, which in in a .txt file. Nothing wrong with doing that.

The company has requested that I send them a fax image of the back cover of the game which contains the code #.  Just did that this morning and am waiting for their response.  Even though my problem hasn't been resolved yet, I'm impressed with their attention.

Oh, by the way Flame, I did explore the game files and the serial number is not printed in any txt file.  Seems kind of counter productive if they did don't you think?  Then anybody could install the game on any computer at any time.
