can i link two computers together

hye i was just wondering if i can link two cpu's together somehow? i have to basic units for computer, one with modern components and one with not v modern components and i want to join them together so that they both run together ie i can use the cd drive in one with the other simultaneously, like they are one computer. is this possible if so how, and will this up my computers speed>?

This is not really a solution. You could take some parts from one and put in the other, but....

Indeed you can connect 2 machines together either by wireless networking, hardwired LAN or a direct cable connection.
When set up properly either machine will be able to access/run all drives you have.
However the fast machine will still run the same way it always has.
The slow machine will still run the same way it always has.
