Windows Media Player problem
« on: January 08, 2006, 06:16:51 PM »
I have windows media player 10. I can watch saved videos on it, however i cannot connect to the internet to watch things such as music videos on AOL.com for instance. I have my firewall turned off, so i dont think thats the problem. Sometimes, it will finally connect and tell me that it is playing, but i cannot see, or hear it, and the time length of the video is not displayed. Does anybody have any idea what the problem is, and if so, please tell me how to fix it.

AOL.com runs its own video player. They are connected to media player, but you will need to redownload the video the the media player to watch it. You might just want to redownload the player again. The AOL player just could be messed up. It is not your player. But you might want to think about redownloading it though.

This is like pulling teeth! :o

And when did it quit working, and what else happened at this time that might be relevant? Do you have all the service packs and updattes? What spyware/adware/virus protection is in place and being used. Just a few details like that are helpful, as the psychic is ill today.  ;)

What about videos from other sites, like CNN, etc. Let's try to clearly pinpoint where the problem is.

I know exactly what you mean GX1_man! Some people just won't be specific enough anymore.

I would just download another player like realone or quicktime. One of these two should be fine.
Because I had to do the same thing for my family's computer.

It quit working about 4 months ago, and nothing else really happened. I use avast 7 and my windows firewall. I have all the updates and am not sure about the service packs.

CNN.com videos do not work either.

A the very least you should update Windows and run some free spyware checkers, like AdAware and Spybot. No excuse not to, and may help the situation.
