    How do I keep my desktop icons from moving around

    Just right-click on the desktop and chose how you want to arrange them.

      You need to switch-off auto arrange to keep the icons still on the screen.

      If you use Remote Desktop to access your computer with a monitor using a different resolution, you will want to use auto arrange and set it in a way that makes sense to you or it can make a mess each time you switch.
