Being forced to accept windows browser
    « on: January 01, 2022, 05:19:23 PM »
I have a 2 OS on my desktop, Win 7 and 10. On rare occasions I check out Win 10 and yesterday was one of them. I have it mostly setup via Email client and Firefox browser. When I opened the digital version of my daily paper and tried to print a crossword puzzle , I was greeted with info about Samsung ( my printer ) and drivers and etc. It was a 'confetti' of so many things, that I got confused. Eventually, in order to continue with the print, the new Win 10 browser was offered into the picture. The Name escapes me at this moment. I had no  option to cancel all of that and continue with my paper reading, that I had to shut down and went over to Win 7 and had no problem, whatsoever, to print and read my electronic paper. My point is, if I am going to use Win 10, am I going to be denied to make print outs of pages, by being bombarded to do actions that are being shoved my way? BTW, someone might say that it probably wanted to update my printer driver. ..but i recall when i first used Win 10, it began updating my drivers, including the printer one, cause I had no problem using it on other occasions, minus my daily newspaper.

Any chance the Crossword puzzle was in the form of a pdf and you don't have a pdf reader installed so the system was trying to use the pdf reader built-in to the Edge browser?

I don't understand...i see my pages very well and there is no pdf involved. I do not have Edge installed also. I just cannot print out a page, like i easily do in Win 7, without having all that garbage that they are trying fo sell me. Usually one sees either an "X" mark to get out, or "cancel"....i am forced to shut down the program. I will continue to use Win 7 for my digital newspaper. I just hope this is not an ongoing situation when i may try some of my favorite sites.

I thought a pdf file can be seen on any browser. Isn't that the whole idea for using a pdf?

Some browsers have pdf ability built-in while others do not.  When you install a pdf reader such as Foxit, the reader also installs in the browser.

its official now....i tried again and still was welcomed with that message about "Samsung Universal Print driver3". I wanted to see if it was just limited to my digital newspaper site, so i used Notepad and still get that message. So it seems that it has nothing to do with PDF's. It does not happen at all on Win 7, with that same printer. A few years ago, Samsung relenquished support on its printers and allowed  Hewl. Pkd to follow up with drivers and etc. Now, out of nowhere Samsung is concerned about privacy issues and etc.? Under these conditions then I cannot use Win 10 at least for making hard copies.  The message is not very clear anyway. I get to see 3 small boxes and they are all pre-checked, and have no idea what those check marks mean. and the rest is blanked. I do not get an option to download the driver. I wish whoever reads this post and has a Samsung printer could verify this problem. If its for Win 10, most likely it would be also for Win 11.

Since my last post, i went to Device Manager and guess what, the driver shown is the driver that i am being asked to install....so, i deleted the driver shown, shut down the pc and reboot and it reinstalled the driver in question and yet, i cannot use my printer in Win 10

It sounds more like the printer has some new included software which is part of the Windows Update package that was already installed, which triggers when you print for the first time to go through the EULA.

I  found out that Samsung's position that they want me to create an account with them so i could accept all info of their products...so i tried to create the account and of course it turned out screwy with their verification code....the code was never sent to my phone and they do not even include a note like some other sites do...."If you did not get the code, click on send again. I can't believe that this is an isolated incident...there must be others that had to run into this mess, apparently not here in Computerhope.com
