Computer Comes On By Itself

I own a gateway computer running windows XP and about five minutes after i shut down my computer it turns itself back on.This has been happening almost everytime i shut down my computer for the last two months. I haven't changed anything in my computer's settings to cause this. What should I do to stop this from happening?  :-?

This problem is doubtless caused by a BIOS setting - possibly "wake on LAN" is the most likely suspect.  Do you know how to enter your BIOS and change settings?  If not, please provide details of your PC manufacturer or motherboard vendor + model.

robpomeroy, I wonder whether he could also get some proof that "wake on LAN" is the most likely suspect by physically disconnecting his communication connection line from his computer just before or immediately after shutdown?

Where would i find the information on the motherboard vendor + model and the PC manufacturer ? Would that be found in the dxidiag?

Computer make and model will be on the PC case, usually.  Or right-click My Computer and choose "properties".  If that doesn't help we can then go on to look for motherboard/BIOS vendor.

    Search through menus for a "Wake on Lan" option, and disable it.

    I checked the bios, no help.
    Tried disconnecting lan cable no help.

    Windows Vista Home premium srv pack 1
