It seems that this is not a random "I forgot how I did it" issue as there seems to be the power cord being withheld also. Maybe you two should have a talk, and if it doesn't work out, just accept your punishment. Whether you "deserved it or not" may not be the only factor. Respecting your parents (or grandparent) may be much more important. Think about it.
