Looking 4 A Safe Browser? What about Foldera beta?
« on: August 30, 2006, 08:00:50 AM »
I have been looking for a safe, easy to use browser and have been told IE is not it due to hackers. I also heard about something coming called Foldera? (See http://folderablog.com/)

For now I use Advanced Browser but not always happy with performance.

Does anyone have input?

Advanced Browser.  Well, that's a new one on me.  Never heard of it before, but it might be fine.

I use IE, but I believe Firefox may currently be the second most used browser.

Are you running Windows XP, and do you have SP2 installed?

Thanks for the response. My previous IT guy told me about Advanced. Their located at http://www.advancedbrowser.com/

Re: IE, I had heard that it was a hackers paradise of choice and the best way to protect oneself both in a Browser and email system is to use one of the others such as T-Bird, Mozilla Firebird, Advanced and this new Beta...Foldera??

Re: the SP2 I have had problems loading that from Windows and I think it is due to my computer having been made by an individual comp store (no longer in business!) as a "brown-bag" special. I just recently used PC Pitstop to get recomendations for memory upgrade etc. and apparently the system is an EDC?

Sorry I'm not much help but regarding computers, it is as they say, "I know enough 2 b dangerous," but I can't fix a thing on my own!!"

Thank you again for your response.

    i use firefox

opera is good its the fastest browser out so far..

ie is so commonly used so its a better choice for hackers that want to attack a large group of ppl.

What is EDC?  A quick Google search on that shows nothing relating to computers.

If you want to know more about all your hardware and software, download Belarc Advisor.  How much memory do you have installed?  SP2 made significant security improvements to Windows, Internet Explorer, and Outlook Express.

Do you have a firewall running?

If you want to try another browser and compare performance with Advanced, see unlovedwarrior's post re: Firefox and Opera.

In spite of unlovedwarrior's assertion, >K-Meleon< is faster than Opera, and very safe.  It is simple, and somewhat "stripped down" but still has a lot of features.  It is based on the same rendering engine (Gecko) is Firefox, and consequently does a much better job of getting web pages right than IE.
