    Thanks for the recommendation of Acronis True Image.  I downloaded the trial v9.0 & tried it out.  Very nice  ;D

    I checked the price on their site then compared Newegg.  About $20 cheaper.  ::) Gonna get it today.

      I create an image once a week...save it to another partition.

      Once a month i burn an image to DVD...2 copies.

      I also use their built in tool to test the validity of the image files before i save/burn them.

      Sounds like overkill but it's a good system for my 3 machines.

      Remember a backup discipline only works if you remember to do it.

      Congrats on a fine purchase....and kudo's to GX1_Man for savin you some dough !

        Basically, to back up my more important stuff [my business info]I run a program called 2nd Copy (Centered.com) to back up my QBPro, Outlook & my business to a hard drive on my server.  I then, each Friday, burn that to a cd/rw.

        I also backup a bunch of other stuff, like downloaded programs, drum videos [I play drums] and other oddities as well.

        The main reason I wanted this software is when I run into a situation where a client wants to move their data [OS & all programs, files, etc.] to a new drive.  What I LOVE  :-* about Acronis is that you can move everything from a larger drive to a smaller one.  Why one would do this is beyond me, but it has the cabapilities to do so.  But mainly for that reason.

        I'll be playing with it's full capacity as time goes by but for now I'm EXTREMELY please with it.

        Yours really isn't overkill, just thorough thinking.

        Ditto to GX1_Man  ::)
