Trial version window
« on: October 19, 2006, 04:21:13 PM »
I have an annoying problem. and was wondering if anyone could assist.

I downloaded a trial version of a program and tried it for a few days. I decided I didn't want to purchase it, so I uninstalled it. No problem. But I keep getting a box come up, when I first load windows, that my trial version has expired. Do I want to purchase. I'd like to get rid of this pasty window.  I searched all through the registry and it seems all traces of it are gone. At least by the name I know it as.

Any ideas what else I could try? I emailed the folks I got it from, but no word from them yet. where is this window stored on my HD? why can't I find it?

If its coming up on start up the most likely way to stop it is ,

    Run Msconfig
From Msconfig , you can Change what programs Start on your computer. you might see it in one of the Lists
The Start up list in MSconfig includes the Start up folder and the Run Key in the Registry.

Startup => You can find this in the All Programs Menu. if its there just remove the short Cut, and it should stop Running, also if there is a short cut there , if you check it properties it will lead you to the File location

The Run Key in the Registry.
    HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Current Version>Run
Look for the file path to the Program , if you don't know which one it might be Edit the key and add a ' to the start of the string, that will stop it from working ,and will be easy to undo if its the wrong one

It may be running as a service in Interactive mode, so check your Services, to see if its there.

Download and install CrapCleaner to clean your system; it also has an easy to use start-up tool.

I like that tool, but I thought you said it was no longer free?

I appreciate all of the posts. I tried the details Panboy mentioned, and found everal places throughout the system this app had placed files. I deleted all of the, but still the window appears. I guess the app places a obscure files somewhere on the HD. Just don't know what to look for. I'll try the crapcleaner next. maybe that will do something. But thanks for all the assistance.
