Hi there,
I have recently bought Nvidia quadro fx 4500, but my mate told me it is probably just geforce 7900 gtx 'hacked'.
He claims that you can do that by using Rivatuner and softQuadro to hack the bios.
However I'd like to determine which card do I have then? Sticker on the card says quadro also windows recognizes it as quadro, some more info for you what I could read from the card itself :
Numbers on the card:
what i think is serial: CN-0HF299-38561-65O-006O
Another numbers I could find:
900-50348-0100-000 G
Bios version: 5.70.02.17.A4
Rev A02
Mic: E-G012-05-375(B)
My mate he checked it with maya and he's telling me that when he was trying to do hardware rendering, the result was not as it should be. Exactly he was trying to add transparency on particles ( sprites ) they was not transparent in the render, not even in the viewport. Normal hardware rendering when he was trying to render objects using maya hardware rendering, results was apropriate to expectations.
Also I tried 3d mark 2005 on this card and result was: 7896 points.
So if you guys out there have any idea how I can determine which card is that please let me know.
Thanks a lot!!!
Mike
Yes, its possible that ur Quadro 4500 is a BIOS hacked 7
800 GTX. The 7800 GTX and Quadro 4500 have the same G70 core. The 7900 GTX has the G71, wich is built on the 90nm process and thus can overclock higher than the G70 wich is built on the 110nm process.
The thing u have to understand is this - the 7800 GTX and the Quadro 4500 are the SAME EXACT card.
They have the same core and near the same clock speeds, the only thing that is different are the names of the cards - the way that the PC sees them.
If u have a 7800 GTX u can hack it's BIOS (wich is the thing that tells the card how to operate), esentially making it a Quadro 4500. Since u changed the BIOS, u changed the card and the PC will now see the once 7800 GTX, as a Quadro 4500.
So u may ask, what is the difference? Simple put, the drivers.
Why do u think that the Quadro 4500 costs a few times more than the 7800 GTX when they have the same specs? It is because the drivers for the Quadro series are better than the drivers for the Geforce series (for certain 3D applications, not games). Esencially, ur paying for the drivers, when u buy a Quadro (the software, not the hardware).
So this means that if u use the Quadro drivers on the Quadro 4500 (or the 7800 GTX after it has been hacked) it should work the same as any other Quadro 4500, no matter if it USED to be a 7800 GTX, because its not anymore.
*Note: If u really care abt knowing wether ur card used to be a 7800 GTX or not, check the ammount of memory and the clock speeds. If it has 256MB of RAM, it used to be a 7800 GTX 256MB. If it has a core clock of 550Mhz, it used to be a 7800 GTX 512MB.
If it has 512MB of RAM and a 450Mhz core, it has always been a Quadro 4500.
