The listing here for one brand sold by TigerDirect.com <see here> shows, under system requirements:

450W PCI Express-compliant system power supply with a combined 12V current rating of 30A or more

Does your power supply meet that requirement?

Can you tell us how you can run an AMD processor on a motherboard designed for Intel processors?  http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/d955xbk/

              (assuming your using windows XP)
Uninstall the video card drivers and codec pack you have then install the lastest video card drivers and a new codec pack.
              drivers- http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_93.71.html

              codec pack- http://www.xpcodecpack.com/

              Quicktime- http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3497

              flash player- http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4272

              java- http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4648

              More ideas-
Windows media player will try to connect to the internet to get updates on the media your trying to play and this will cause it to be slow and unresponsive, go into its options and disable all the connect to the internet stuff to increase its performance.

Nortons antivirus trys to scan any running processes and can cause horrible slowdowns when starting some programs because Nortons its checking all of its actions, uninstall nortons and install a more efficient antivirus like Avira (its free) http://www.free-av.com/

Sometimes a computer is just running way to much bloatware to run properly to fix this use a startup manager to disable unessesary programs from starting when you bootup  http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml
Running an XP optimizer program can help futher reduce the load  http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1087
Thats all I can think of at the moment.

Are these downloaded movies? What is the file format? Try downloading the appropriate codecs like from here:

              http://www.theorica.net/download.htm

Choose this one near the bottom of the page

              The Codecs 5.0 - 9x/ME/2000/XP (English)
