Security issues? .... I never knew
I love Google Calendar, especially since I can get it anywhere without any special software. Its compatible with Firefox and IE, unlike many of the Microsoft/Hotmail/MSN services which only run on IE

Here is a computer hope news search on it with some of the past security issues.

But outside of the "pretties" what is there of substance?
    ...

Just using a snippet from GX1_Man's post  -  this reply is directed to everyone reading:

Now think over everything that has been said so far in this thread,  but with this mindset:    Microsoft's  -  like any business, really -  goal is to make money by selling their product.

Nothing wrong with that.    Just keep it in mind.

See -  MS most important goal is NOT to make a better product.  That is secondary.   Really, it is only a necessity.... towards the goal of making money by selling product.
How about this -  if they thought they could make more money by just selling XP,   do you think they would have fooled around with Vista?    Or course not....

So,  if Vista  vs. XP does not seem to strike you as much of an improvement - don't be surprised.

Also,  a fair number of folks posting here are above average in computer savvy.   They ARE going to notice if it doesn't do much more.    The less savvy are more apt to be impressed with bells and whistles and 'prettiness',  which leads to.... you guessed it.... sales!

I am not knocking MS for this.    Heck,  even toothpaste companies do it.   Ever seen an ad on TV say,  "Buy this -  it's the same ol' s**t we've been selling for 20 years".
Of course not.... it is always,  "New and Improved!!".

They've got to come out with something that they can call "new" every so often.
    So does MS.

Just keep in mind that their #1 goal is to make money, and then it makes sense.

However, I think a lot of what they changed was mainly in the stability and the help/troubleshooting and device management, making the everyday computer use easier and quicker.

You misspoke...this is what they set out to improve....

Great example where's the new file system ? ? Last i heard it's at least 18 months away.

BTW i'm not an MS basher...just a realist.

Agreed. I'd be happy to use Vista, if only I thought it was worth my while.

      Ok, how about this:
If Microsoft offered to give you Windows Vista for free, would you take it and install it on your main computer?

It's not, anymore. They offered a beta.

Funny picture, by the way. :)

I thought that the BETA would be dissabled once the actual version came around, or does it continue to run without paying?

I recieved it directly from the Mothership...the BETA free versions that were available are scheduled to take a dump on July 1st.

Mine is not crippled in any way except for how it runs.
