are you running a pre P4 cpu?
« on: March 11, 2007, 09:57:06 AM »
seeing as all the old pre P4/K7 (pentium 4 or amd K7 series) computers seem to float around this forum, i thought i'd see just how many of you are living in the past. feel free to post your specs if your a pre P4 or K7. K7 refers to AMD's, not intel's, so i doubt many of you have such a system.

I'm not running a pre-P4 system.
I have a K8, and the family has a K7.

The answer would be no, assuming you're talking about my primary computer.  However, I do have an old 200MHz Pentium and a 466MHz Celeron.  The Pentium may be going to the next local computer recycling drive (May 2007).

Well, some of us older guys have just owned computers longer.  The first computer I owned was a Commodore 64; it had 64K of memory.  The second one was a 286 (12MHz CPU, a 30MB hard drive, as I recall).  Then, there was a 486.  Those are all gone.  Sometimes, I wish I could have kept those older systems just for the fun of it.  But, to avoid clutter, getting rid of them seemed the best thing to do.

I guess so.
I just wish I could've kept the old PCs we've had.
Then again, I didn't know anything about them back then.
Our first PC was in 1996 - I have an Atari 520STE and a Sega GameGear that are older than my first PC, and I bought them way after that.
Strange?

Dead_Reckon, what's the point of having all those computers?  By my count, you have at least a dozen.  Do you have keyboards, mice, and monitors for all of them?

Yes i was joking...i have my bench test machine, my main build and usually 2 others at any given time...

I also have in the basement a Pentium 66 running Windows for Workgroups that i fire up from time to time.
Saving it for the museum as it was famous for shipping early before Intel discovered an error in the built in math co-processor  :o

What's a P4 ? ? ?

It's a "P" to the 4th power...

...isn't it???

I don't have any pre P4's hanging around the orifice...I mean office...but I do remember the first computer I ever owned...it was the Timex Sinclair.  It was a little black keyboard with very little memory...no internal anything.  You had to type several pages of "Basic" code just to get it to display an analog clock on your television set.

Man...am I old or what?  Don't answer that...it was rhetorical! :D
