Computer capabilities

     This is probably such a simple question that it borders on moronic.   HOw do I figure out what my computers capabilities are?  I wanted to buy an MP3 player.  The fellow told me I had to have 2.8 GHZ processor, 25gmb Memory, 2.0 GB Hard Drive, USB 1.0 or 2.0, and a firewire port.  I've only got a very basic idea of what any of that means.  I've got no idea if my home computer or my laptop has those capabilities.
    I've got a Gateway EV700 and a Dell Latitude CP M233ST.

Just right click on My Computer and click properties.

You can search the manufacturers website for specific specifications on your system.

Or use a program such as Sisoft Sandra 2004 which is very detailed and includes benchmark tests.
