      operating system?
It's at the top of the HJT log! ;)

tww .... there are two immediate things that concern me. You have one bad running process and your java.

Open Task manager (hit ctrl+alt+del together) ... click once on this process to highlight it ...

      ER8B26.EXE

      ....then click on "End Process".

      *************

Download Ccleaner from the link below but ensure you install it WITHOUT the optional Yahoo Toolbar download (you must untick/uncheck the relevant box on download) …

      http://www.ccleaner.com/

Install it and clean out your computer with the default settings.

      *************

Now boot to safe mode. Here’s a “how to” if you’re not sure ..

      http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406

      *************

Find this file and delete it IF it's still there ....

      C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\ER8B26.EXE

      *************

      Empty your recycle bin.

      *************

      Reboot to normal mode.

      *************

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

      Updating Java:
      • Download the latest version of  Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
      • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications"…..

      • Click the "Download" button to the right.
      • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
      • The page will refresh.
      • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
      • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
      • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
      • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
      • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
      • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
      • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
      • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Post a fresh HJT log and an update on how your system is operating now.

          C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\QI65B2.EXE

This process caught my eye.  It wasn't there before.  What do you think, oddjob?  A replication of ER8B26.EXE perhaps?

          tww,
I don't want to *censored* in because oddjob is doing a great job (he's gotta be our top virus guy), but would you mind doing a scan of that file on VirusTotal and posting the results, just to quench my curiosity?
