unauthorized access by "ex"

This may sound strange but I really need help.  My "ex" moved out about 1 year ago and left the computer we were sharing.  He bought a new one.  Recently, I have bought some stuff online, and he calls me and tells me he got the e-mail acknowledging my order?  How can that be?  I don't want him knowing my business!!  Can anyone help or offer some explanation for this!!  Thanks!!

did he know your login information when you lived together??

It's likely that either the account setup with who you're ordering through is simply sending the conformations to his e-mail address or that he has your login information for either the place of purchase and/or your e-mail. Verifying what e-mail address the place of purchase has and changing your passwords on your e-mail account as well as the place of purchase should resolve your issue.

Just make sure before you change the place of purchase password that it's being sent to your e-mail address and not his.

Finally, if that doesn't fix the issue and he's still able to monitor your system it's likely something is installed on your computer that he's able to log in through. If this is the case this is illegal in every state in the United States and most other countries. I'd advise him about it and scan your computer as mentioned. If he really wants to continue you can prosecute him in accordance with many laws already in place.

Sounds like you and your "ex" were sharing an email account.

There is no way to take the information back, but if you are at reasonable speaking levels, you could just ask they he/she forward the emails to your new email address.

Be sure to change any online account information (like an eBay account, or Amazon account you may have also bee sharing) to your email address, better yet, to avoid causing him/her problems, make a new one.

A good step would be to backup all of your important data from that machine and do a clean install.
This would also involve brand new e-mail accounts etc. but it's no more hassle than moving to a brand new city...

This will ensure a better level of privacy.
