Audio Driver help
« on: June 22, 2007, 11:50:37 PM »
I recently built a computer with a MSI 650i Platinum Motherboard.  Everything works fine, but there is no sound at all.  In Sound and Audio Devices, its says there is No Audio Device.  I installed the HD sound driver that came with it and restarted, but the status in Sound and Audio Devices did not change, and there is no audio at all.  I checked my Bios, and audio is enabled.  I've reinstalled the driver many times, but no luck.  Maybe there is another MSI/Realtek driver I can try? BTW, this is an onboard sound card (integrated).

The error i get in widows media player is
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.

( i have been at msi's site looking for audio problem questions at tech support, not finding any) ...this would lead me to believe you have a workable issue - we just need to find it!

Thanks street1, but I tried that and no luck.  BTW, my user name is just random, haha.  Honvetops, I tried that as well, and no luck?

Is this fixable?  I've never had a problem with audio...

I saw this at new egg:
"The only problem I had was that after I loaded the HD audio driver from the CD I could not get Musicmatch, WinMediaPlayer, iTunes, or any media jukebox to play audio. I uninstalled the HD audio, restarted the compy and let WinXP install the driver. Worked perfectly after that. Sounds great."

How do i get WinXP to install the driver after i uninstall the HD audio.

The Platinum series MSI MBoards have a known issue with onboard sound...have you contacted the manuf. yet ? ?

The easy way out would be an add on PCI sound card...not too expensive.

Thank you Patio, I am going to contact the manuf.  If they are not successful, I will add on a PCI sound card.  If I buy this card, will it affect me negatively in any way? and also, this card should not experience the same problem?

I have an 8800gts, would that cause a problem for me to put a sound card in a PCI slot?

Honvetops called to my attention that I will have to disable onboard audio and enable the sound card.  I am not sure if I am looking in the right place in the Bios, but it says HD Audio Controller in 'Integrated Peripherals' section of the Bios.  Will I have to disable that?  I think I will have to, but I am not sure.  If so, how do I enable the soundcard? I see no other audio devices in the Bios...

You will need to go to start, settings, control panel then
Then double  click on system ,then choose hardware,
then device manager, under Sound ,video and game controllers
find your on board sound, right click on it,now choose properties,
at the bottom you will see device usage. Choose..

Do not use this device(disable).See below picture for reference only.
