DVD Drive Help

My DVD drive could read CDs before but recently it stopped working. it still reads DVDs but it cant read CDs. It acts as if the CDs dont exist  . I have tried running virus scans and defragging the computer but nothing seems to work. I run windows XP.

Some DVD/CD units use more than one laser to read different formats...sounds like a laser is burned out.
To confirm this move the unit into another working machine and test it with different media.
