Wierd monitor problem
« on: August 09, 2007, 10:44:52 PM »
Ok I'm not sure what's caused this but here goes.

The past couple days, verticle green lines just appear on the screen at random times. When I'm online it's usually 10x worse. Like when scrolling up and down the lines get progressively worse until they practically are over a good part of the screen. The lines go away depending on what web page i'm on, but there are 7 lines across the screen, about 3 pixels wide each in various places on the screen that just will not go away. I've tried demagnetizing the screen but the lines will not go away. So I figured I'd ask for some help. Thanks for any advice.

Sounds like the graphics chip may be failing.
Is this onboard or an add on card ? ?
If it is a card remove a side panel with all the power removed and remove the card and reseat it. Take the time to do some housekeeping inside the case while you're in there using a can of compressed air to clean all heatsinks and fans. Use a QTip to hold the fan blades in place when blasting.
When finished power up and check to make sure all fans are operating properly.
If it still has lines then you will need to replace the vid card...
