Help Please
« on: September 18, 2007, 04:07:42 PM »
ok, my name is Shawn. I am 17 years old and i happened to come home today and my desktop was turned off. It is running windows xp professional.  so i tried to turn it back on and it wouldn't, I unplugged the power cord and plugged it back in and then it turned on but for only a brief 10 second and then shut itself off. I have no clue what it's problem is, i tried replacing the power supply but that didn't work so my second idea would be the motherboard...... Can anyone let me know whats wrong please?

thank you

shawn

Could be that your CPU overheated.

Do you know how to clean the CPU, heatsink, and fan
then add thermal paste?

Sometimes it will not but, giving it a try let's you know for sure you have
a good contact between the heatsink and CPU so, heat will dissipate
properly.  You may well have a bad CPU.
