Windows media player
« on: November 28, 2007, 06:46:17 PM »
Please move this post to the appropriate catagory if needed. I am useing windows xp, compaq deskpro, 256 ram, service pack 2, pent 3, windows player 9. What do I do to make the player play commercial COPY PROTECTED dvds? I DO NOT WANT to copy them to disc or hard drive(I use a vcr for that). I only want to play them on the monitor> I am useing another less sophisticated player that CAN play them, with sacrificeing some controls such as full screen. Please explain in simple english, web site adresses, another player complete with ALL that is needed to be fully functional from day one. <email removed>

You might want to consider removing your email address  ;)

What exactly is your problem? Are you having trouble playing DVD's or are you looking for another program that can play them?

if all you wish to do is watch DVD's on your computer, then i highly recommend VLC Media Player.

    I second that

But if you want Windows Media Player to play a DVD, I dont think Windows Media Player 9 will do it very well.  I would suggest using a slightly outdated version of Windows Media Player (Windows Media Player 10) with your system specifications. Download it here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/10/default.aspx
and then downloading the K-Lite Codecs Pack, here:
    http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm
This should allow you to play a DVD in Windows Media Player. The K-Lite Codecs Pack will also correct any issues in Video LAN (VLC) if it fails to play certain DVD's
