Hard drive jumper settings
« on: April 15, 2004, 04:02:20 AM »
On my hard drive, in whatever position the jumper is in it is recognised as a slave drive. It is a new hard drive in an old computer, so it hasnt been used on the computer before. Maybe the jumper is broken in some way maybe?

Does it matter if the hard drive is set as slave even though there is no master?

Try with no jumpers.  There should be a diagram of the settings on the HDD showing which is master.

If the drive is a Western Digital or Maxtor and will be running without a slave drive, it is general best to put the jumper on the 'cable select' setting.
