Comodo 3 Basic Setup Issues
« on: January 21, 2008, 11:37:28 AM »
From Scott's Newsletter Forums :

Quote
I have learned directly from Comodo executives that the Basic Firewall installation option of Comodo 3 does not offer any outbound leak protection whatsoever. They may add that protection in a future version of Comodo 3.x. The Basic Firewall option turns off Comodo 3’s Defense+ HIPS module, which provides the leak protection for Comodo 3.

Too bad about that. Might as well use Windows firewall instead of that.

Looks like it is time to start recommending PC Tools Free Firewall Plus. http://www.pctools.com/firewall/
I use it and like it alot.

I used Outpost for a short while. Didn't like it. Then uninstalling it almost drove me up a wall. Even though I had ran the uninstaller with Revo Uninstaller it would continue to block any other firewall from being installed. I had to use the HJT Delete an NT Service option to finally rid it from my computer. Thats just wrong for a legit product to be so hard to get rid of.

So, it will only offer outbound protection if Defense+ is installed and enabled? I'm switching to another firewall. CFP 3.0 was a pain ever since installation. I liked 2.0, but this version pretty much sucks a##.

I have seen a few disgruntled users since 3.0 came out. This will be the final straw I'm sure.

@Dairyman, looks like it might be time for a new signature lol.

Just did it. Online Armor is going to be added to the signature soon (not)

But I'm going to use another firewall...

Hey, Patio, are you using v1 or v2 of Jetico Personal Firewall?

Because I heard that you are using Jetico, right?

I'm running Comodo with Defense, so I'll want to run some leak tests, and I'll let you know, how it goes.
I tried Online Armor FREE version, but I didn't like it, because free version has number of options disabled.
As for PC Tools firewall, it caused problem with Vista authentication, and I had to uninstall it. Maybe, they had some updates, which fixed it.

I just finished running extended leak tests on Comodo+Defender.
I used:
http://www.grc.com/lt/leaktest.htm
and
http://www.firewallleaktester.com/
All together 27 tests, and Comodo passed ALL of them with flying colors.
Comodo stays with me.

BTW...TreatFire kicked in few times, as well.

I ran the very same tests on Vista firewall, and it was a total failure.
